Alexandrite is a birthstone for June and is also the gem for the 45th and 55th wedding anniversary.Īlexandrite is the very rare color-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl and is often described as “emerald by day, ruby by night,” because it changes color from bluish-green in fluorescent light to brownish or purplish-red in incandescent light.
